The Sixth Annual Wissahickon Trail Classic- A Great Success!
The Wissahickon Wanderers and Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers thank you for your support and participation in the 2011 Wissahickon Trail Classic! A record turnout of 521 runners, perfect running weather, and a fast field combined to make the 6th annual event the best yet.
James Erickson finished first followed by Matt Grey and former winner Daryl Weaver. Claire Hewitt was the first woman finisher. Visit the Wanderers' website for complete results, race report, and almost 130 photos of the event.
All the proceeds from the event will benefit the Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers whose tireless volunteering efforts help make the Wissahickon Valley such a special place. As the old adage goes, "keeping a park looking 'natural' requires a lot of work". Any additional support you can extend will go to good use and is greatly appreciated. ($10 to plant a tree, $25 for membership)
Race director Phil Ranly and event coordinator Laura Fanelli want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to all the sponsors, the Wissahickon Wanderers, Ron Horn of Pretzel City Sports, and the army of volunteers. If you are a volunteer reading this, Thank You! A special note of appreciation to this year's Gold-Level sponsors: East River Bank for the race-day handouts, Nathan for the water stops and prizes, Whole Foods for all the delicious food, and Chestnut Hill College for parking assistance.
Event partners include Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, USA Track & Field Mid-Atlantic, and the American Hiking Society.
Please visit our Sponsors 2011 page for a complete list of Sponsors.
Again, the race report, race results, USATF results, and almost 130 photos can be found on the Wanderers website » |
