2025 Year in Review

2025 was an outstanding year for our mission to restore Wissahickon Valley Park’s natural areas. Your support helped us achieve over 1,100 volunteer hours across 44 hands-on field sessions. We planted around 200 woody plants of 35 different species and focused on nurturing our current restoration sites.

Here are some more highlights:

Soil Studies: With support from Leslie Sauer and David Ruppert, we continued studying the soil at the Blue Bell and Sam’s Forest sites. We’ve been adding carbon to encourage helpful microbes grow, and we’ll monitor the effects in 2026.

Additional Team Support: Thanks to a generous donation from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in honor of Mindy Maslin, we expanded our team. This fall, WRV hired and trained five new part-time restoration specialists who will continue in Spring 2026.

Weekday Sessions: We’re thankful to volunteer Iyana for co-leading our new weekday sessions, adding flexibility to our schedule. We’re happy to share that these sessions were well attended!

Looking ahead to 2026, we aim to achieve even more. Your support will help us expand our forest restoration programs, train and support future Wissahickon advocates through our environmental education programs for youth and sustain the vital maintenance efforts that preserve the park’s natural beauty.
